Summary

My Sister, the Serial Killer is a blackly comic novel about how blood is thicker - and more difficult to get out of the carpet - than water。。。

When Korede's dinner is interrupted one night by a distress call from her sister, Ayoola, she knows what's expected of her: bleach, rubber gloves, nerves of steel and a strong stomach。 This'll be the third boyfriend Ayoola's dispatched in, quote, self-defence and the third mess that her lethal little sibling has left Korede to clear away。 She should probably go to the police for the good of the menfolk of Nigeria, but she loves her sister and, as they say, family always comes first。 Until, that is, Ayoola starts dating the doctor where Korede works as a nurse。 Korede's long been in love with him, and isn't prepared to see him wind up with a knife in his back: but to save one would mean sacrificing the other。。。

This book was very good until I got to the ending。 It read so well and the characters were interesting。 I loved the plot until I got to the very last chapter。 I wanted her to be happy but she got cold。 I would want someone to read this book just so I can talk to them about it。 Overall I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys the thriller genre。

I really did not like Ayoola! But Korede is the star of this book for various reasons。 It kept me on the edge of my seat and eager to read more。

one of my favorite books。 i love the feel it has to it and the atmosphere it creates。 both of the main characters are well developed and unique and their trauma, the misogyny of the world around them and societal norms and expectations are masterfully illustrated。

Incredibil de dezamăgită de cartea asta。。。 Ce m-a enervat cel mai tare a fost potențialul ei neîmplinit de a fi o carte cu adevărat bună și memorabilă! Dar în schimb nu e decât o caricatură a unei intrigi realmente interesante și noi în peisajul literar。 Singurul lucru care mi-a plăcut a fost scriitura。 Și rarele referințe culturale aruncate pe ici pe colo。 Însă personajele au fost inconsecvente (deci superficial gândite), și limitate de niște tipologii care nu știu în ce măsură există în realit Incredibil de dezamăgită de cartea asta。。。 Ce m-a enervat cel mai tare a fost potențialul ei neîmplinit de a fi o carte cu adevărat bună și memorabilă! tI was under the impression that this was going to be thrilling, but I was definitely disappointed。 Had I gone in with the expectation that this would’ve been more of a family drama, I might have enjoyed it more, but maybe not。 It might have just been too short to develop an intricate story with good, complex characters, but it is what it is。 The audiobook narrator is excellent, which helped keep me engaged。 tThe sisterly dynamic in the book is interesting, but the lack of morality is not someth tI was under the impression that this was going to be thrilling, but I was definitely disappointed。 Had I gone in with the expectation that this would’ve been more of a family drama, I might have enjoyed it more, but maybe not。 It might have just been too short to develop an intricate story with good, complex characters, but it is what it is。 The audiobook narrator is excellent, which helped keep me engaged。 tThe sisterly dynamic in the book is interesting, but the lack of morality is not something I really enjoy reading about。 There were no redemptive qualities that I could find。 I’m glad I read it, but definitely think it’s overhyped。 I can see why some people really like it though。 。。。more

It was quite good this book, quick and easy read to pull you out of a reading slump。 The only reason it is 4 stars and not 5 is because I predicted everything that happened it wasn’t a very unique plot line。

Kind of the book equivalent of those disposable made-for-Hulu shows where you watch three episodes and you’re like “I guess that was legally television。” There’s a mildly clever premise, the characters all have two to three personality traits, there’s a theme (patriarchy), you get some perfunctory flashbacks to cheaply echo the main story line。 There’s not one stylish or memorable moment but it goes down easily enough。 Good reminder that lit world praisegiving and prizegiving is completely fake Kind of the book equivalent of those disposable made-for-Hulu shows where you watch three episodes and you’re like “I guess that was legally television。” There’s a mildly clever premise, the characters all have two to three personality traits, there’s a theme (patriarchy), you get some perfunctory flashbacks to cheaply echo the main story line。 There’s not one stylish or memorable moment but it goes down easily enough。 Good reminder that lit world praisegiving and prizegiving is completely fake and responsive to nothing except marketing budgets。 。。。more

I was intrigued in the beginning but towards the end I just became incredibly bored。

I really wanted to love this book。 The plot of the book is so intriguing, and it’s what made me want to read it in the first place。However, I feel like it fell short。 The writing is amazing, it’s very engaging and easy to digest。 Again, the plot and story line is perfect。 The characters have so much potential too。 I just needed more!! More depth into the plot and especially more character building。 Again, the writing is beautiful。 I just felt like Braithwaite needed to dive deeper into the plot I really wanted to love this book。 The plot of the book is so intriguing, and it’s what made me want to read it in the first place。However, I feel like it fell short。 The writing is amazing, it’s very engaging and easy to digest。 Again, the plot and story line is perfect。 The characters have so much potential too。 I just needed more!! Such a page turner! Love the satirical takes on society concerning family dynamics, worth found through beauty (beauty of course comes with goodness, right? riiiiight), and troglodytes—oops—straight men’s foolishness。Satisfying ending as well。

Laugh-out-loud hilarious。 Braithwaite has herself a page-turner here。 Not too deep, which I appreciated。 Finished in 24 hours。

This book is easy to read while also having an engaging plot。 My only problem with it was the really short chapters that left a lot of blank space on pages。 If you can get it at the library, do it。

As this book went on, I was enjoying it more than I thought I would。 This is one of the few books I can say I have read set in Africa in a modern era。 The few glimpses into a life abroad in Nigeria were by far my favorite parts。The characters are tough to love。 I think it goes without saying that the serial killer character is not one I was ever really rooting for。 I was intrigued by Korede's character since she was caught in the middle of her sociopath sister and this man she has a crush on。 Th As this book went on, I was enjoying it more than I thought I would。 This is one of the few books I can say I have read set in Africa in a modern era。 The few glimpses into a life abroad in Nigeria were by far my favorite parts。The characters are tough to love。 I think it goes without saying that the serial killer character is not one I was ever really rooting for。 I was intrigued by Korede's character since she was caught in the middle of her sociopath sister and this man she has a crush on。 The way it wraps up though。。。I'm not sure I was really sold。 I thought it was a cheap and easy way out of the dilemma。 I ended up liking Korede only slightly more than her sister the murderess。There is an underlying, parallel story involving the sisters' father。 Around the halfway mark, the similarities started to show and I got very excited about the direction the story was heading。 However, the ending was another let down that really did not do anything for me。 Most of this book was a three star experience。 But, the last 25% of the book just killed it for me。 。。。more

The ending though!!! I loved the way it ended, probably my favorite thing about this book。 I felt so frustrated about the characters, which I think is a good thing because it meant that I actually cared。 Really like, and recommend this book。

Proof that a powerful plot attached to a minimalistic writing style is the formula for commercial success。 The premise was great, the setting was vivid, although the ending was lacking and ultimately dissatisfying。 Still glad I read this and would recommend, definitely a good book to have on hand。

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 I had high expectations for this book given everyone was talking about it a couple of years back, but those expectations were not met in full。 It's entertaining at best。I like the way it's written, very real life like。 I also like it being short。 I would have liked the characters to be more explored and detailed and the story itself could also have been a bit more thrilling (considering murders are happening and what not)。 I'm in between a 3 and 4 so will give it 4 * for now。 I had high expectations for this book given everyone was talking about it a couple of years back, but those expectations were not met in full。 It's entertaining at best。I like the way it's written, very real life like。 I also like it being short。 I would have liked the characters to be more explored and detailed and the story itself could also have been a bit more thrilling (considering murders are happening and what not)。 I'm in between a 3 and 4 so will give it 4 * for now。 。。。more

Compelling story。 Great characters。 The ending is depressing。 No justice is served and no happiness is found。 It seems that's the trend in fiction now。 I don't think I've read one novel lately where people end up where you want them to。 Compelling story。 Great characters。 The ending is depressing。 No justice is served and no happiness is found。 It seems that's the trend in fiction now。 I don't think I've read one novel lately where people end up where you want them to。 。。。more

LOVED this book about sisterly loyalty。 despite the divide between the main character and her sister, while reading I was reminded and reaffirmed that I would do ANYTHING for mine。。。

I’m not sure how to rate this book honestly。 It is incredibly well written with engaging imagery and rich characters。 It definitely screams morally gray。 And I really enjoyed the glimpse into Nigerian culture and society。Maybe I just didn’t like anybody and that was the problem。
